  IMTA TEACHERS EDUCATION

The International Maitland Teachers’ Association (IMTA) welcomes you to the IMTA’s Teachers’ Training!

IMTA offers a training system to qualify physiotherapists to teach courses in manipulative physiotherapy based on the principles of the Maitland-Concept®.

Next to the course system in advanced manipulative physiotherapy leading to OMT-qualification in various countries, this special training links advanced manual physiotherapy skills with educational elements to facilitate the acquisition of the necessary skills for clinical educators to lead postgraduate training.

The downloadable Curriculum and Syllabus on the right provides with the necessary information which you need when following this training.

We hope we have provided you with a overview of this educational programme and have awakened your interest.
For further information, please do not hesitate to contact IMTA’s Assistants’ Coordinators or members of the IMTA Board.

Interested physiotherapists may apply to enter the IMTA Teacher Training Program after successfully completing an IMTA Level 3 course. Physiotherapists who have completed an equivalent postgraduate training in manual therapy with another institute may also, in principle, apply to enter the program.

The teachers training program takes place over a minimum of 7 years. It consists of a minimum of 22 weeks course assistance on IMTA courses and a training in teaching methods and didactics.

After attaining an IFOMT recognised OMT qualification and successfully completing the IMTA's teacher training program the applicant can be admitted to the final qualifying examination. This 3 day examination consists of written papers, patient treatments, a lecture and a comprehensive techniques examination.

In addition to teaching on a regular basis, all IMTA Assistants and IMTA Teachers are obliged to practise clinically for at least 600 hours a year using the concept.

Through its quality assurance program IMTA ensures that all Teachers continually pursue their own further education in order to maintain the high quality of the education offered.
